“We are excited to have such a talented and successful young coach join our ranks. He (Fernandes) has played at the highest level, learning from the best and understands what extraordinary coaching looks like. We hope to see him implement what he has learned while playing at the professional level and bring it to Valeo at the youth level,” said Valeo FC President Emelio Williams.
As a youngster, Fernandes played for Bairro FC in his native Cape Verde. In 2009 he moved to the United States to join his mother. Fernandes began playing college soccer at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2013. During his spell as a college soccer player, he scored 25 goals and had 10 assists in his 65 appearances. Fernandes was drafted in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft on 17 January 2017. He went on to sign with United Soccer League sides Orange County SC in April 2017 and North Carolina FC in January 2018.
Fernandes looks to complement the clubs key pillars with his core values of discipline, hard work, commitment, respect, and leadership.
